Waiting For Jesus
Advent is already here and Christmas is just around the corner. There are so many distractions in our daily lives that it is very difficult to remain attentive to our God who is coming and wants to show us how much we are loved.
As we prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ, let us remember that Jesus is the reason for the season. He is our hope, our light and our life.

December Themes
Religion and Family Life
We are preparing the students during the season of Advent for the birth of Jesus. Through prayer, music and art, the students will grow closer to Jesus and prepare their hearts for His blessed arrival. The students have brought home their Advent wreath and prayer sheet. Please light a candle each week and prepare for the coming of Jesus.
Language Arts
This month we will be working on letter writing. Santa Claus is eagerly awaiting the arrival of your child’s letter! We will also continue our shared reading and guided reading program. As well, in December I will be collecting all Guided Reading books before the holidays. Students can continue building literacy skills by practicing their sight words, watching youtube clips and visiting these recommended websites that are listed on our classroom website.
Math
The children will be learning about linear measurement using non-standard units. They will have many opportunities to measure, compare, and describe lengths and heights. They will use measurement terms such as longer, shorter and taller. Measurement will continue into the month of January.
Science
Our Unit Energy in our Lives will come to an end this month. We will continue to discuss that the sun is most important source of energy and how the sun’s energy is clean and renewable. Visit the class website for activities you can do at home. It will prepare your child for final assessments for this unit. Also, visit http://www.alliantenergykids.com.

The Advent Bag
For those families who have not received it yet, it is simply a festive bag filled with a wreath, a candle, a journal and a short story. Each child will have an opportunity to take the Advent Bag home to share with his/her family. Please remember that the bag must come back to school the very next day in order that all children will be able to take it home for one night.
The Christmas Concert
The Primary grades will be participating in a Christmas Concert. The children are excited about this performance!!! We have been practicing everyday and every child has an important part. Please let me know if your child will not be attending the evening of the concert. Our class will be performing on Wednesday, December 10th, at 7:00 pm. On the night of the concert, please have your child come to our classroom at 6:45 pm. A letter will be sent home shortly indicating what your child can wear to enhance our performance.
A Morning Of Christmas Creations
The holiday season is upon us and the excitement of Christmas has filled our classroom. In keeping with the spirit of Christmas, I have planned a Morning of Christmas Creations on Tuesday, December 16 for the children. A letter will be sent home shortly. Please let me know if you would like to join us for the morning of fun and creativity by filling out the form and returning it back to school!

Old Christmas Cards
Do you have any pass Christmas cards you no longer need? I am looking at reusing Christmas cards for our Writing Center. Only the cover of the card is needed as long as the back of that cover is blank. The children can use them to write Christmas letters to one another or family members. It is a great way to encourage writing in our classroom!
Winter Weather
Winter weather is here! I continue to encourage students to wear hats, gloves and warm jackets to school. Please continue to label all articles of clothing. Also, extra pair of socks and change of clothing (to be kept in their baskets) during the winter months is also recommended.
I thank you for your support this first term. I look forward to a great new year! Take some time to enjoy the festivities and enjoy this holiday season brings. Our children cherish and relish in these moments. They become the memories they hold dear for a lifetime! Have a safe and happy Holiday Season! Mrs. Genua |
